Summary

Bushey Feight Morin Architects Inc. provided Architectural/Engineering Design for the new Perimeter Security Upgrade, Gatehouse, and new Kitchen and Dining Expansion at the Patuxent Institution. The project was completed in four (4) phases during construction. All phases were within the secured facility.

Phase 1 - re-configuration of the existing parking area to permit construction of the new Gatehouse (13,600-sf) and Central Control Tower (1,000-sf).

Phase 2 - replacement of the existing security fence with a new maximum security fence with shaker and microwave detention systems. In addition, the new gatehouse provides for the reception of visitors, offices, control officer, support/muster area, control room and armory.

Phase 3 – Construction of new 17,246-gsf Kitchen, Dining and Storage/Mechanical area. The design parameters of this project were to expand the kitchen's production area and upgrade the food service equipment for the preparation and re-thermalization of food product.

Phase 1 and 2, the Gatehouse and Central Control Tower, were completed and occupied in conjunction with the perimeter security fence. Electronic security monitoring became activated when the kitchen renovation was completed.

Phase 4 - Provided for a new 3,000-sf administration and education classrooms for inmate training.
