Dr. Kramer & Koterwas, Oral and Facial Surgery

Smile Design Centre

Summary

The 4,000 square foot Oral and Facial Survery Center is located within an 8,000 square foot single story building owned by Dr. Richard E. Karmer, DDS and Dr. Gary E. Koterwas, DDS.  The building named Stonington is located on a one acre site at 30 Parkwood Drive, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Description

The 8,000 square foot structure is wood frame, slab on grade construction designed to be “green” and energy efficient.  Exterior material included local manufactured stone, fiber cement siding and trim, high energy efficient winds and doors.  The 6-inch thick exterior walls contain R.19 insulation and walls sealed to minimize air infiltration.  The bottom of the trusses located 12 feet above the concrete floor slab has gypsum board taped at all edges to limit air infiltration and to hold R.38 roof insulation.  Energy efficient heat pumps are isolated above a platform in a room within the roof trusses and ductwork is extended between a suspended acoustical ceiling and gypsum board to contain heat loss within the insulated shell of the building.  Day lighting through large efficient glazed windows minimizes electrical lighting and compact fluorescent and T-8 electric ballast conserve electrical energy needed for lighting.

The interior is attractively finished to give an illusion of a fine residence for patient comfort.  The Doctors selected “State-of-the-Art” dental equipment and surgical lighting to supplement their operating procedures.
